New Hybrid Training Program Makes Volunteering More Accessible Than Ever

Visiting Nurse Home Care & Hospice of Carroll County and Western Maine (VNHCH) is calling on compassionate individuals to make a lasting difference in the lives of hospice patients and their families. As part of its efforts to strengthen its hospice care program, VNHCH is hosting an informational session for prospective volunteers on Thursday, May 8, at 5 PM at its offices, located at 1529 White Mountain Highway, North Conway, NH.

Volunteering with VNHCH is an opportunity to provide essential support and comfort to those in need while forming meaningful connections. This free session offers community members an opportunity to meet VNHCH hospice staff and current volunteers, learn about the vital role volunteers play in hospice care, and explore the many ways they can make an impact.

“Hospice volunteers provide more than just their time — they offer connection, comfort, and compassion to patients and families at a deeply personal time,” said Ashlee Chaine, Volunteer Coordinator. “Whether it’s visiting with patients, offering bereavement support, helping in the office, or assisting with errands, there’s a role for every kind of volunteer.”

New in 2025, to accommodate busy schedules, VNHCH is offering a hybrid volunteer training program. This approach allows new volunteers to complete much of their orientation through a self-paced online course, with in-person options available for those who prefer face-to-face hands-on learning.

VNHCH seeks individuals willing to commit just 2–4 regularly scheduled hours per week, helping to provide consistent, familiar support for hospice families. Roles include:

No prior experience is necessary—just a compassionate heart and a willingness to serve.

Prospective volunteers are encouraged to attend the upcoming informational session to meet VNHCH hospice staff and learn about the program. Light refreshments will be served.
